6/24/08 - New Album Available!

Busy busy busy... who isn't?  Our plate has been mighty full the past few months in preparation for the new album Dripping Faucet.  The full-length album is now available at hip-O shows for $10, and filled with twelve songs debuting the new sound. Soon, it will be available for purchase through itunes, our website, and independent record stores!!

hip-O @ Birdy's '08 Thanks to all those who came out for our triple-header weekend, kicked off by the pre-release of our new album at the Monkey's Tale.  We also want to thank The Vogue and Ekoostik Hookah for having us out Friday night.  We had a great time in Michigan City on Saturday with Funkshoe, and look forward to coming back to the Shoreline Brewery soon.

We will be postponing Thursdays at The Monkey's Tale until further noted.  We apologize for the inconvienience and late notice with this week's show.

hip-O's "Introlude" has been voted number 1 in the Jamband category on ourstage.com for the month of May.  Thanks for voting and keep listening!

5/12/08 - The Dripping Faucet

hip-O @ Birdy's '08 Two shows, one weekend. Spin Thurs, Tiptop Sat.

I haven't left myself much time to write you, but at least you've got yourself the flyer for this upcoming Thursday show over there in Broadripple.  The Indy Uprising Live & Local Showcase - conveniently located, reasonably priced at a $3 cover - proves to be a diverse line-up of original music!  This will be our first time performing with Landon Keller, Marion Square, and Rivetshack, and I'm certain we'll all be enjoying the scattered thunderstorms and local music supercell that will be Spin Nightclub Thursday night!

Follow up with us at TipTop tavern (14th & Capitol) two days later, this Saturday, with Sonny Knows Paco and Zmick!  That's all I have time for for now.  Thanks for joining us at hip-Oband.com, and check out the contacts page to join our email list.

4/30/08 - Hump Day at Hideawayhip-O @ Birdy's '08

Two stage pics in a row, I know - but the lighting was just too good to pass up! This one's from Kinetic Playground.  -  David

The music rang out into the night over Louisville during Derby week as hip-O rocked the night away.  Traveling just over two hours away for the second time in seven days, hip-O drew out old friends and new fans alike!  We'll be returning to the Hideaway Saloon again the last Wednesday in May - we love you, Kentucky, and hope to see more of you later this May!

4/16/08 - Mastering / Traveling / Writing / Jamminghip-O @ Birdy's '08

hip-O's keeping themselves busy this week in preparation for a weekend and a half coming up.  First, we have a three group showcase at Birdy's on Friday, 4/25.  Saturday, we head north to Chicago for the 10,000 Lakes Cosmic Break tour, where we'll compete with local and regional acts for a spot in this summer's 10KLF. A few days later, we enter the Louisville scene at Hideaway Saloon - an all hip-O, all night jam starting at 11:00.  It's a $4 dollar cover for four hours of jam inspired funk rock.

Check out the upcoming shows we have for you in May - and be ready to hear/see/have our upcoming album, Dripping Faucet, in summer '08!

3/31/08 - Monday, Monday, Monday!!

So we're a mere matter of hours away from hopping on the road to Urbana, IL to cause ourselves some trouble with Zmick tonight.  It's going to be at the Canopy Club, and it's going to be sweet.  Don't live in the area?  That's alright - we understand.  But be certain to check out what else we have cooking for the next few months - our upcoming album is entering the production phase, we're working with Funkshoe up at Birdy's in April, and of course the ever-present...

June 13th show at the Vogue with Ekoostik Hookah!

So give yourself plenty of time to work that into your calendars.  I know I have.

-David

3/26/08 - Come to Doc's this Friday

Short and sweet - we're teaming up with Sonny Knows Paco this Friday in Muncie.  Check out hip-O's calendar for the details.  Look for us up in Urbana, IL this Monday, too!  More to come on that one.

3/19/08 - The Weekly hip-O

This week, you can find hip-O recuperating from a bang-up doubleheader holiday weekend with Herbert Wiser Band.  A few things we've learned in these past adventures:  One - for my part, late nights, a little draft beer and a lot of travel will every so often earn you a five-day fever.  Two - just because you haven't seen them since sixth grade doesn't mean they don't know about hip-O.  Three - Weimaraners don't always cooperate.  Four - if you want the best burger basket for two dollars around, head to Brewe-ha's.  Whimsical lessons, maybe, but I believe it to be a story that has to be told.  Many thanks to HWB, Brewe-ha's, and all the dedicated who attended this weekend!

Up and coming this Saturday (conveniently located hours before Easter Sunday), hip-O will be performing with Shadyside Allstars at Mugshots in NW Broadripple.  Two holiday weekends in a row - what could go wrong? It's free, it's fun, it's funky.  More original music than we know what to do with - that's hip-O.

As always, more to come....

3/10/08 - Spring '08 - Here Comes hip-O!

2/13/08 - Wrapping up the Album

Last night proved to be a night filled with great music all around with many good times with old friends, and good times with many new friends.  From all of us in hip-O, we give a sincere thank you to those of you who came out last night.  You risked your lives traveling on the icy roads to support us and it was wonderful seeing so many good looking people in the same place at the same time… the night ended up being a blast!!! We want to congratulate the Shadyside Allstars for winning an entry into Summer Camp '08; they played a great set and deserve to be there.

hip-O will spend February and early March finishing up the CD to be released, and writing new material.  Off to be mastered and finishing the artwork, the album is due to be released by April (release date to be announced soon) if all goes as planned.  Rehearsals have been mostly writing sessions lately and new tunes are practically falling from the sky.  We are sounding tighter than ever, and opening up new musical doors through experimentation with various musical styles.   Introducing a third vocalist, more horn heavy tunes, guest musicians, more slide guitar, adding upright bass, and introducing many new hip-Otized tunes are just a few things to come in the upcoming months.  We might even feature a kazoo or triangle before long, who knows.  Look forward to sharing…

- Eric

2/01/08 - Proving once again, Sonny really does know Paco!

Ok, just a quick one - Winter storm advisories be damned! To those who braved the ice and snow to join us in Broadripple last night, I offer my heartfelt thanks - we had a great deal of fun and hope you did, too! Sonny Knows Paco tore it up with a bigger crew and a better sound than ever before, as hip-O introduced some of our newest sounds and songs to a crowd beleaguered by ice pellets and freezing rain.

Now, on with the countdown - February 12th is only eleven days away, and as we're ramping up for Summer Camp 2008 tryouts at Birdy's, we've locked in a few new shows that include an IN/IL joint with Herbert Wiser Band in March, our Mug Shots (formerly Stone Mug) debut with Shadyside Allstars, and a slew of festivals across the Midwest (more info to come). The bottom line is that the year of the hip-O has begun, and we're so glad to have you with us for the ride!

- David

01/23/08 - New Songs / jambands.com

Thank you to everybody who came out to the Mousetrap last weekend... we hope you liked the new tunes.  We are in a writing stage, and new material is coming out every rehearsal.  For every upcoming show we will play at least two never performed originals, and a few new cover tunes.  We are starting to introduce cover songs to hip-O, so let us know what you want to hear and we will do our best to accommodate your listening needs by learning the song.

hip-O is now on www.jambands.com and already in the top 250!  Throughout this upcoming year, you can participate in voting for us in a number of different polls at this website for things such as: most memorable band, hottest new recording or jam, best looking band, best swan dive, tastiest pie, etc.  Its fun for the whole family!!!

We'll see you next time!!!

- Eric

01/12/08 - Studio, Phase II

hip-O hits another studio session this weekend to continue work on our upcoming studio album, due for release in spring 2008. Meanwhile, we gather strength for this Friday's Up for Grabs joint at The Mousetrap. No cover, ample parking, tasty food - Indianapolis, we summon thee.  Music starts at 10:00pm with Up For Grabs, continuing with hip-O until the wee hours of the morning.

01/07/08 - "Thank you, Muncie, Indiana!"

Well, first things first - I'd like to extend our sincerest thanks to our oldest and newest fans up in Muncie, IN! hip-O struck the Ball State campus this past Saturday for a night of basement jams and collegiate hijinx. On a personal note, just about anywhere with a keg of Two-Hearted Ale is where I want to be!

In an effort to provide our growing fan base with the latest of all things hip-O, we will be continuing to extend the scope of hip-Oband.com.  Included will be links to promotional materials (high resolution images, hip-O flyers, biographical and performance histories, so on and so forth), new and better ways to communicate with hip-O (for now, leave us a comment at MySpace.com), and all the trimmings of a band on the move.

See us at The Mousetrap the Friday after next, January 18th, and keep an eye and an ear out for hip-O!

-David

01/03/08 - 2008 brings new flavors of funk rock...

...so nasty and funkified, you may want to be careful listening to around your momma.  After getting together for the first hip-O rehearsal of the year, three new songs have been finalized, and progress is moving forward like a train on steroids.  With an extremely creative approach in recent rehearsals and a focus on new sounds, a new form of writing is emerging within the group.  The next show on the books is the mousetrap on January 18th, and we will be carrying with us our new bag of tricks.  We hope you think our new tunes are hip-ofunkalishously nasty!

See you at the next show!

-Eric {from hip-O's blog @ MySpace.com}

12/18/07 - Welcome to a new hip-O...

As we enter the holiday season and the end of 2007, things are ramping up for hip-O in the new year.  Recently out of the studio, our newest lineup is looking and sounding stronger than ever!  In 2008, hip-O fans can look forward to more venues, an all new website, (here at www.hip-oband.com), and of course, a whole new blend of funk / rock!  More studio time is already in the works to complete the second half of our upcoming new album, and we'll be spreading our latest music across the Midwest.  See us at some of our favorite hotspots in Indianapolis, and be sure to come back and visit us online!  To connect with hip-O, please visit us @ Myspace for music, images, bios, and booking!
